Where everyday life meets faith, creativity, and encouragement
We are designed to connect. Our stories just happen to be the road that leads to connecting with others.
Faithful Words is my Substack devoted to being a safe place to write, reflect, and learn. It’s a place where everyday life meets faith, creativity, and encouragement. I will be sharing personal stories, reflections, and writing insights. So, if you're looking for inspiration, encouragement, or a moment to reflect, you've come to the right place.
I’ve learned a lot about writing, Substack, and consistency over the last several months since starting this Substack. So much that I believe the best step forward is a fresh start, a new beginning to carve out a new journey—one that is similar to before but this time learning to embrace who I am, the way I write, and penning the words I feel called to publish here.
All without the worry of copying others or trying to keep up with the Jones. I think we’ve all been there as writers, right? You see what one writer is doing and, naturally, think you should be doing what they are doing to get the results they have.
I’ve come to realize I don’t want that—I can’t do that. Readers need to hear from me, Aaron, not a copy of another writer.
I do know when I write freely my writing is raw—with typos—and real. That’s the kind of writing I find myself reading more of because that’s the kind of words itching to be released within myself.
I won't stress about the number of articles I write anymore; instead, I’ll focus on what inspires me, just like my favorite writers do.
I won’t worry about if my writing is perfectly edited, because I’m human and even the best editors make mistakes.
I won’t be anxiously watching my subscriber count, because that number doesn’t determine whether or not I’m a good writer or have found success. Will I be tempted? Oh yes. Will I watch it at times? I’m sure. But my focus must shift. I’ve only found success and become a great writer when I write what I know is dying to get out regardless of what the world says. Success isn’t numeric—it’s measured differently for each writer. For me, success is just consistent, real writing. That’s what I call a win.
I will write about everyday life, my Christian faith, creativity, writing, and the world through the lens as I see it. I write about my interests and I pray the words I publish speak to you right where you are.
It’s my hope readers follow me as a writer, not just for the words I pen. I follow writers, not books, not articles, but writers. Why? Because writers are human and that’s where connections happen. We are designed to connect. Our stories just happen to be the road that leads to connecting with others.
So, I’m excited to take this journey into writing the way I know I should—need—to be writing. I hope that’ll join me on this journey as I begin this step toward writing real, raw words struggling to get out.
Many of you have already subscribed to Faithful Words (thank you for your support so far and for hanging with me as I navigate my journey as a writer). You’ll find the same writer here, except going forward my writing will be all the things I’ve mentioned and more—at least, that’s my hope.
Sometimes a fresh start is needed to go further than you already are. That’s how I feel about starting my Substack’s new direction. It’s needed to go further as a writer, to reach new goals, and to allow more growth to occur—sometimes growth only happens when good things are pruned.
I want to be a better writer.
I want to be a better husband, father, and more importantly, a better disciple.
And for that to happen, my Substack needs some fresh paint, some TLC, some refocusing, and new ambition from myself.
My dream is to create more margin to write and this is a step toward that dream. Every writer has a dream, it’s measured differently, and each writer must take steps down their “hall” to reach the door they are searching for.
This is my first step toward my door.
Thanks for being here.
